About
Inspired by the vast, beautiful complexity of being alive, Carla believes play is crucial and something that should be extended beyond childhood.
Her current focus in making is centred around exploring the social narratives and nuanced landscape that meals allow for. Carla’s work embodies the tender, celebratory moments that can be shared by the act of having a meal.
Her practice encourages audience interaction through multisensory experiences, such as allowing the audience to consume, touch and physically be a part of the artwork. Strongly influenced by her upbringing where food was the core of all social interactions. She believes meals are a powerful social tool. As our primitive needs are met, vulnerability allows genuine conversation and connection; an openness which can invite interesting and complex art environments. With deep roots in our interaction with the world, meals are moments that should be cared for and nurtured.
Carla is excited about pushing materiality and during a recent residency with Peacock & the Worm, a print studio in Aberdeen, she experimented with combining printmaking, ceramics and food work. Beyond this, Carla works across various mediums from film to bookmaking.
She values creative networks and friendships; often working in collaboration with others and enjoys how these moments influence and intertwine with her art.
